A Day in the Life of the Comédie-Française: Program for 11 June 2016

22 June 1777, Le Siège de Calais, a five-act tragedy in verse by Pierre Laurent Buirette de Belloy, followed by L’ Anglais à Bordeaux, a one-act comedy in verse by Charles-Simon Favart.

How did the troupe perform the repertory at the Comédie-Française several centuries ago?  What was the relation between the two plays performed each evening, the "long" and the "short" pieces?  This program offers you a chance to travel back in time to experience the nature of play-going in days gone by.  Focusing on a specific date in the past, excerpts from the two plays performed that day and contextual background will offer a new view of daily theatrical life in France centuries ago.
